On 23 November 2009, at the Faculty of Economics in Split, we presented the project for the “Development of Eco-sustainable programme tourism facilities in Croatia (GoGreenCro)”.
The programme supported by EU funds (PHARE 2006) and the Croatian Ministry of Tourism has been implemented in Dalmatia and Istria since November 2008. The partners on the project are Association for Nature, Environment and Sustainable Development Sunce from Split and Zelena Istra from Pula.
On this occasion, the “EcoPartner” labelling programme developed within the project
has been presented to the owners of small tourist accommodation owners, tourist professionals, students of the Department for Tourism – The Faculty of Economics and others interested in the project.
The aim of the programme , that is, this presentation aim too, is promoting the environmentally responsible form of tourism in Croatia, the one following the good examples from European and worldwide tourism practise, integrating the programme directives of environmentally responsible management in the tourist orientation of the tourist accommodation facilities by the EcoPartner label encouragement. During the 2009 season, six small tourist facilities in Dalmatia, took part in the pilot project, and were using the “EcoPartner” label. Satisfied with the programme, they intend to continue the same direction. The guests’ responses show satisfaction and approval, too.
The presentation was accompanied by a very interesting lecture on sustainable tourism and actual trends in Europe given by Mr Naut Kusters, Director of the European Centre for Eco and Agro Tourism (ECEAT), expert in the development of eco labelling and marketing in the area of eco-tourism.
